Let Your Middle School Student(s) Discover Once And For All: What Super-Powers Are Inside Them.

Our youth are growing up in an overweight world. They think healthy food is boring. And video games are more exciting than exercise.

As a result, a third of our kids are overweight or obese. Research shows that means lower test scores. Diminished concentration. More illnesses. And more behavioral issues.

We have to teach our youth the importance of eating healthy and exercising daily. And we have to do it in a way that engages them, motivates them and captures their imagination.

That’s where the Super-Power Summit came in.

Students in 6th-8th grade and adult advisors from all over the state are invited to the Super-Power Summit. This super-hero themed event is a day of fun activities, inspiring talks with notable individuals, engaging street marketing events, and tools to implement wellness programs, including mini-grants.

Please register your team of 2 to 6 student leaders by Wednesday, September 30th. And choose two members of the team to participate in a Food & Fitness Craze sponsored by Iowa State University Extension to Families and 4-H Youth Development to learn additional tactics to take back to your school.

To register, click on the registration link at the top of the page. Have the names of your students as well as their t-shirt size ready to enter. Also, please have the two students picked out to attend the Food & Fitness Craze sessions separate from the rest of your group.

The Iowa Department of Education’s Team Nutrition Program is offering 40 teams who register mileage reimbursement at the rate of $0.39 per mile and a substitute teacher stipend worth up to $100, to provide attendance support. Reimbursement will only be available for one car and one substitute teacher stipend, per school building, with priority given to Team Nutrition schools (to learn more about Team Nutrition and/or to enroll your school contact Patti Delger at patti.delger@iowa.gov or Carrie Scheidel at carrie.scheidel@iowa.gov).
